Rail service near Nawabshah not resumed after 22 hours


NAWABSHAH: The rail service, on up and down tracks, has yet to be resumed near Nawabshah despite collapse of 22 hours at a stretch, Geo news reported.

Meanwhile, the relief train, carrying railway crew for repairing the broken tracks, has derailed while on its way from Rohri railway station.

It may be recalled that the railway tracks near Nawabshah got out of order due to derailment of goods train coming from Lahore on early Tuesday, which left several train’s compartments overturned, suspending the railway traffic on up as well as on down tracks and shattering the tracks on two sides.

Subsequently, the railway crew was called in from Kothri railway station for the relief and repair work but the rescue train derailed before reaching its destination.

And as a result, the railway traffic on up and down tracks near Nawabshah has not been resumed since Tuesday morning.

DSP Railway Sukkur Roshan Ali Mangi told Geo news, hundreds of relief workers and heavy machineries remained busy in repairing rail tracks all the night long, and hoped that the train service will soon be resumed.

Meanwhile, several passengers, stuck in various other trains in different parts of country, are suffering miserably due to disruption of rail service in Nawabshah, sources told media.
