Pak, US desire long-term partnership, says Haqqani
WASHINGTON: Both Pakistan and the United States want to forge a long-term strategic partnership as it is in the interests of both the nations, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a dinner hosted by him in honour of a visiting delegation of Pakistani parliamentarians, he said, “Pakistan has been an important partner of the US in matters of security.”
Haqqani said both the nations wanted to bridge the differences that had developed between them during the last few decades and also wanted to enhance bilateral ties.
“We want to build a strategic partnership which takes care of the interests of the people of both the nations. For the first time US leaders have desired to deepen their relationship with Pakistan and make it a relationship that goes beyond immediate concerns of the day and goes down to the people’s level,” he said.
The gathering included senior American officials, a group of visiting Pakistani journalists and prominent Pakistani-Americans. The Pakistani parliamentarians who were visiting Washington on the invitation of the State Department included Health Minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin, Senator Abbas Afridi, Senator Rasheed Ahmed, Member National Assembly (MNA) Akhunzada Chitan, MNA Aasiya Nasir, MNA Noor Alam Khan, MNA Sajid Husain Turi, MNA Jawad Hussain, MNA Kamran Khan, MNA Sufyan Yousaf, MNA Nadeem Afzal Gondal and Member Provincial Assembly Dr Haider Ali Khan. app
