ECNEC approves Bara multipurpose dam
PESHAWAR: The 3rd meeting of the Steering Committee of the FATA Development Authority with NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani in the Chair on Friday discussed a six-point agenda, seeking guidance of the committee on developmental, financial and regulatory matters. While taking stock of implementation on the decisions taken during the previous meeting of the committee, the meeting was informed that the implementation process had been initiated. A number of joint ventures had been taken in hand with private companies and investors including the Mohmand Agency Marble City project, establishment of a Common Facilitation Centre in Darra Adam Khel for hunting and sporting arms manufacturing, use of the latest machinery and techniques in marble exploitation and a Soapstone mining project. The meeting was further informed that coordination between WAPDA and FDA was in progress on the proposed Bara multipurpose Dam. The project, it was told had been taken over by WAPDA and was approved by the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) for a cost of Rs. 14.2 billion. Similarly a pilot project to explore the commercial viability of precious and base metals in FATA was also being carried out. app
