LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Sunday urged Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to address the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) concerns in the province, Daily Times has learnt.

Gilani called Shahbaz over the phone to convey PPP lawmakers’ concerns. According to sources, he said PPP ministers had complained that their work was not given due importance in Punjab.

The prime minister called on the chief minister to address the PPP members’ reservations “without any delay”. The leaders also discussed a case registered against 250 PPP workers in Qila Gujjar Singh on charges of holding an anti-judiciary rally.

Gilani told a meeting of PPP office bearers on Saturday that he would talk to Shahbaz about his party’s reservations, especially over issues related to job quotas and the registration of a case against 250 PPP workers in Punjab.

The sources said the prime minister and the chief minister discussed the prevailing situation and agreed to resolve issues between their parties through talks and improve ties.

Shahbaz assured Gilani he would address the reservations expressed by the PPP ministers and workers. He said issues confronting the PPP’s Punjab chapter would be resolved at a meeting with PPP Senior Minister Raja Riaz, according to the sources.

Shahbaz said that PPP ministers and members – being coalition partners in Punjab – could approach him if they had any complaints.

Gilani said the PPP and the PML-N should advance politics of reconciliation to improve their working relationship.

A source said a meeting between Shahbaz and Gilani was likely tomorrow (Tuesday) to sort out differences between the two parties. The Punjab chief minister is due in Islamabad on Tuesday to preside over a meeting of the PML N’s legal committee, which would brief him on the progress made by a parliamentary committee on constitutional reforms and the party’s stance in this context.
