‘Zardari should not address joint session until reforms passed’
Daily Times Monitor
LAHORE: President Asif Zardari should avoid addressing the joint session of the parliament until the approval of the constitutional reforms, a private TV channel quoted Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader MNA Khawaja Saad Rafique as saying on Sunday.
Addressing a ceremony at the Alhamra Arts council, he said the PML-N would not remain silent if Zardari addresses parliament before the approval of the reforms. Zardari must play his role to strengthen democracy as the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had signed the Charter of Democracy (CoD), he said.
Rafique also asked the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid to sign the CoD. He further said that the PML-N would be the beneficiary if mid-term elections were held in the country, but the party would not support any un-democratic step, he said.
Talking to a private TV channel, Rafique said that the PML-N was not a friendly opposition, but playing its role as a responsible opposition of the country. He said that some circles want to see the PML-N confront the PPP-led government, but that is not possible.
Rafique said that Nawaz Sharif was playing an active role outside parliament. About the upcoming by-election in NA-123, he said that the PML-N would win the by-polls, as this constituency belongs to Nawaz Sharif.
