Who is the richest?
According to the declarations of assets and liabilities made by senators to the Election Commission, Senator Gul Muhammad Lot of the Pakistan People’s Party is the richest senator with net assets of Rs 2.7 billion and no liabilities. Former finance minister Shaukat Tareen and one of the owners of Silk Bank, had quoted as one of the reasons in his resignation that he needed to raise equity from the market for the bank, which — while he was in-charge of the country’s economy — would have been a conflict of interest. Nevertheless, Tareen is the second richest senator in the country, with declared net assets of Rs 1.2 billion. He also has liabilities of over Rs 2.6 billion.
