CRC for removal of dictators’ references from Constitution
ISLAMABAD: The Parliament’s Constitutional Reforms Committee (CRC) reached a consensus to remove the references of former military dictators from the Constitution.
The CRC met today in Islamabad with Senator Raza Rabbani in the chair.
It discussed the legal and constitutional issues pertaining to the distribution of revenue collection between center and provinces.
Sources privy to the meeting told Geo the committee has agreed to eliminate names of past military dictators General (r) Zia ul Haq and General (r) Pervez Musharraf mentioned in the Constitution.
The name of Zia ul Haq was included in clause 1 of Article 270-A of the Constitution through 18th Amendment while Pervez Musharraf’s name was mentioned as the Chief Executive of country in the 17th Amendment.
