PCB axes Younus and Yousuf from all national teams

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday axed former Pakistan captains Younus Khan and Mohammad Yousuf from all formats of national teams after the recent catastrophic tour of Australia. Two other players Rana Navedul Hasan and Shoaib Malik were banned for a year and fined Rs 2 million each. PCB chief Ijaz Butt accepted recommendations of a six-member inquiry committee, formed to probe the December-February tour in which Pakistan lost the Test series 3-0, the one-day matches 5-0 and the only Twenty20 match. The committee blamed infighting between Yousuf and Younus for the disastrous results, and recommended they ‘should not be part of the national team in any format.’ Three other players were placed on probation for reasons ranging from dissent to a videotaped incident of ball-tampering. In the clip Shahid Afridi, the darling of Pakistan cricket, bit into a cricket ball during a match to alter its flight path and extract an unfair advantage. Wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has been fined Rs 3 million while his brother batsman Umar is fined Rs 2 million for various misdemeanours.
