Haqqani urges end to US scanning procedures
WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Husain Haqqani has urged Washington to expedite visa processing for Pakistani travellers and remove Pakistan’s name from the list of the 14 nations whose citizens are made to go through scanning procedures at American airports.
The ambassador discussed issues related to Pakistan with US Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary of Policy David Heyman in a meeting held at the Pakistani embassy.
“Pakistan being an important ally of the US, the people of Pakistan are very sensitive to the discriminatory procedures of scanning at American airports,” Haqqani said.
He said there is a need to remove Pakistan’s name from the list of those 14 countries at the earliest. On the topic of the processing of US visa applications, Ambassador Haqqani called for early completion of visa issuance process for Pakistanis, especially students, who need to join campuses in time before the beginning of semesters at American universities. app
