Sahiwal’s babies receives offers for free treatment
ISLAMABAD: Various offers regarding free operation and bearing the expenses of treatment for the head-conjoined twins, who were born in Sahiwal, were received after Geo News telecast their news on Sunday; the PIA also announced to offer free travel to the twins and their parents wherever they choice to go for treatment, Geo News reported Monday.
Suraiya Bibi, a resident of Chak-104 on the outskirts of Sahiwal, was brought to the hospital District Sahiwal late on Saturday night. She underwent an ultrasound, which revealed that she was expecting twins, who were joined at the head.
The doctors went for the operation and saved the babies, but their heads were still joined. The doctors said the twins could be separated, provided they were not sharing the brain.
Meanwhile, Suraiya said she could not afford the operation, which could cost Rs 400,000 to 500,000.
After offer from Karachi, Neuro Surgeon Dr Zafar Iqbal and plastic Surgeon Dr Muazzam Tarar also tendered their offers for free treatment of the female children.
They said it is very difficult to separate the head-conjoined children; however, they would tap into all their capabilities for the purpose.
Pakistan Baitul Maal MD Zamarud Khan also announced to bear all the expenses for the operation, telling Geo News that Pakistan Baitul Maal contacted the children’s parents and these children would be shifted to PIMS for operation on Monday.
The FC Balochistan officials said they would make arrangements to move children along with their parents to Karachi.
