Power misery continues; no letup in sight


HYDERABAD: People in Pakistan are still being inflicted with the blistering load shedding despite it being Sunday today, Geo News reported Sunday.

Scorching sun coupled with the load shedding triggered the use of ice and the citizens are forced to buy the commodity at exorbitant prices.

Interior Sindh areas including Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Kotri, Tando Muhammed Khan, Tando Allahyar, Sukkar, Obaro, Ghotki are facing protracted spells of power load shedding spanning from eight hours in urban areas to 12 hours in rural areas.

Acute heat plus load shedding has added to the plight of the District Larkana where potable water has run short and the people have no other way round but buy ice on inflated prices.

According to Mepco officials, the power shortfall upped to 540 Megawatts, with demand standing at 2100 to 2200 MW.

According to schedule issued by the Mepco, Multan will have six hours of power outages and rural areas will suffer from ten hours of the affliction.

Faisalabad industrial sector is adversely hit by the prolonged power outages ranging to 12 hours.

Gujranwala’s urban areas face 15 to 16-hour load shedding span and the rural areas 18-hours of power outages.

Also, the NWFP areas including Charsadda, Noshehra, Mardan and Swabi are massively affected by the power crisis.

Swat’s urban areas are afflicted with 12-hour of load shedding; while, the spell of load shedding in rural areas has reached to 14 hours.

Mingora traders threatened to go on shutter-down strike, if the unannounced load shedding is not put to an end.

Azad Kashmir’s capital Muzaffarabad is facing 8-hour load shedding and 15-hour in rural areas; while, the span of 12 to 14-hour of load shedding is persecuting Mirpur Azad Kashmir.

Balochistan is basking under the most severe condition, as the power supply to Northern Balochistan areas including Chaman, Fort Abdullah, Pashin, Fort Saifullah and Muslim Bagh lay disconnected for the third consecutive day today, after a grid stations was blown up in Mach.

The misery has triggered protests in the areas.

Other areas including Jafferabad, Naseerabad and Bolan are receiving power only for four hours.
