‘Naval cooperation will improve Pak-US ties’

WASHINGTON: Closer cooperation between naval forces of Pakistan and the United States will further bolster their bilateral relationship, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Noman Bashir has said.

Admiral Bashir was speaking at a reception hosted in his honour by Pakistan’s ambassador to the US Haqqani, which was attended by senior officials and lawmakers of the Obama administration, including Senator Dianne Feinstein, CIA Director Panetta and Chief of US Naval Operations Admiral Gary Roughead. “The common objective is, of course, to make sure that terrorist activities, which are affecting us more than anybody else, are eliminated from that region... we have a peaceful country, a peaceful region and a peaceful world,” he said. He said that the Pakistan Navy has been extending critical cooperation to collective efforts despite the constraint in resources. “We are not doing it for anybody else but for ourselves, because being in that area, we think it is our responsibility, our moral obligation and our duty to make sure that the region is safe and secure for us and for everybody else. app
