PPP expresses shock over Nawaz’s statement

LAHORE: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) expressed its shock over the latest statement by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif regarding the constitutional reforms package, a private TV channel reported on Thursday. Talking to reporters in Islamabad, Minister for Information Qamar Zaman Kaira said the nation has been disturbed by the sudden apprehensions raised by the PML-N about the constitutional reforms package. He said the Constitutional Reforms Committee had already reached a consensus on all issues, including the renaming of the NWFP as Pakhtoonkhwa. Kaira hoped that Nawaz would reconsider his policy towards the renaming of the NWFP. President’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar said Nawaz’s comments suggested that the constitutional amendments would not be possible. PPP Secretary Information Fauzia Wahab said the PML-N should accept renaming the NWFP as Pakhtoonkhwa, as the province’s representative party had suggested the name. daily times monitor
