High vote bank for ‘Q’ in Gujrat surprising: Khosa

LAHORE: It is surprising that the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) has been able to secure such a high number of votes in the Gujrat by-elections, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Zulfiqar Khosa said on Thursday. Talking to reporters, he said former president Pervez Musharraf was the “real patron” of the PML-Q and the party had lost its credibility, even in the hometown of the Chaudhrys. He said that allegations of rigging in the by-polls levelled by the PML-Q leadership were “baseless”, as not even a single incident of rigging was reported in the media. Khosa said the result of only one polling station has been withheld because armed men barged into that polling station and intimidated the polling agent, Khalida Parveen, who fled the scene. He said the district returning officer had already recorded a statement and sent the sealed report, with comments to the Election Commission of Pakistan. To a question on alliance with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for the by-elections, Khosa said, “The PPP may have no love lost for the PML-N, but have all the hatred for the PML-Q.” staff report
