Power crisis presses Pakistan badly

PESHAWAR: Pakistan continues Saturday to be afflicted with the acute power crisis as the shortfall is still pegged at 4800 Megawatts, Geo News reported Saturday.

Load shedding spanning several hours is in progress unabated.

According to Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) officials, the power production is 10,150 MWs with consumption at 14,950, triggering load shedding—announced and unannounced.

Despite the Pepco announcements, no load shedding schedule is being followed in cities—small and large—including Lahore.

Despite the announcement of 7-hour load shedding, power outages span is 11 hours in Lahore and the duration swells up to 19 hours in villages and small cities.

The power shortfall may soar if the mercury rises and demand increases.

Various Pepco thermal powerhouses are still shut down.
