Gilani offers to talk to Nawaz, Rabbani says ‘no need’
ISLAMABAD: While Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani offered to hold talks with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif on Friday – the chairman of the constitutional reforms committee, Raza Rabbani, rejected the PML-N’s reservations, and said there is no need to talk to “any person or institution about the matter”. Gilani dismissed the impression that democracy was in crisis following the PML-N chief’s U-turn. “I am ready to meet Nawaz Sharif,” he told reporters. He said he had talked to Rabbani, and it was “up to the committee to decide the future course of action”.
Meanwhile, a private TV channel quoted Rabbani as saying that he had decided to table the 18th Amendment Bill in both houses of parliament. At a meeting on Friday, the committee also criticised the PML-N for the party’s reservations over the appointment of judges. The committee is scheduled to meet again on Wednesday. app/daily times monitor
