Gilani urges MPs to exhibit patience on UN report

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has urged the members of Parliament to demonstrate patience on the issue of release of United Nations report about the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

The prime minister said this while responding to a point of order raised by a opposition lawmaker Raza Hayat Hiraj on Wednesday.

Gilani said that the concerned person (interior minister) would speak on the issue.

How could the government cause any delay to the UN report when the National Assembly and all provincial assemblies unanimously had decided to conduct the probe through a UN commission, he remarked.

“We should not take up the matter, for which the concerned person is not present in the house to answer,” he said.

Speaking on a point of order, Hiraj said the UN Secretary General was about to submit the report of Mar 31. However, despite spending hefty amount on investigation, the report was deferred at the request of Government of Pakistan.

He said the PML-Q was also awaiting the report as it was called ‘Qatil League’ after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.

Another PML-Q MP Faisal Saleh Hayat said his party would accept the finding of UN report even if it blamed the Q-league.
