Turkish President Gul arrives on 4-day visit


ISLAMABAD: Turkish President Abdullah Gul arrived here Tuesday on a four-day official visit upon the invitation of President Asif Ali Zardari.

Talking to reporters shortly after his arrival at the PAF base Chaklala here, the Turkish President said Turkey and Pakistan have an emotional relationship and enjoy an excellent understanding on various issues.

He said during his stay, he would hold talks with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani on bilateral, regional, international and economic issues.

“Turkey is very much supportive of Pakistan in its fight against terrorism,” he said, and congratulated the government, army and people on the successes achieved in this regard.

Gul said Pakistan has a bright future, adding that the two countries were supporting each other at international fora.

He stressed on strengthening economic ties between the two countries, mentioning that a large number of investors were accompanying him during his visit and said that Turkey would like to invest in Pakistan in diverse areas especially energy and infrastructure projects.

Earlier on his arrival, the Turkish President was given a warm red carpet welcome at Pakistan Air Force base as he alighted from his plane. Interior Minister Rehman Malik and higher officials received the dignitary.
