PLF expresses concern over SC decision

ISLAMABAD: The People’s Lawyers Forum (PLF) has expressed concern over the Supreme Court’s order in which it set aside the parliamentary committee’s recommendations for rejection of one-year extension to six additional judges. Talking to Daily Times, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and Senator Kazam Khan rejected the court’s decision, saying that “the judiciary has been treading on a confrontational path with parliament”. Khan, who is a senior lawyer, regretted that the judiciary had adopted a method which had severely deranged the country in the past. Another PLF member, Raja Rehman, said the parliamentary committee was an independent constitutional body and it had a veto power to reject the appointment of any judge on any ground. He suggested the government to file a review petition against the court’s decision. Opposing the judgment, PLF’s Asif Butt maintained that the court’s ruling was in violation of the constitution. staff report
