Babar Awan indicted in kidnapping, robbery case

RAWALPINDI: A district court on Saturday indicted Federal Law Minister Babar Awan in a robbery and abduction case. The case against Babar was lodged with the New Town Police Station, Rawalpindi, in 1998. The minister, who appeared before a civil judge, Mehr Sarfraz Hussain, along with his counsel Farooq Awan and People’s Lawyers Forum (PLF) members Sajid Tanoli and Babar Ali, denied the charges and termed the case as baseless. During the hearing, a witness, Muhammad Doraiz, told the court that no such incident had occurred. However, the court formally charged the minister and adjourned the hearing until March 12. The court also summoned prosecution witnesses. Sheikh Iftikhar, owner of a newspaper, had filed the case against Babar some 12 years back. staff report
