Notice issued to FIA DG in Khanani, Kalia case

KARACHI: Sindh High Court’s Justice Sajjad Ali Shah - inquiry officer - has issued a notice for March 11, to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Waseem Ahmed in a probe into Khanani and Kalia money laundering case. Justice Shah was appointed as an inquiry officer by the SHC chief justice on the directions of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry for the probe to determine whether Khanani and Kalia bribed for their acquittal or not. Justice Shah also sought complete record of the prominent money laundering case from the concerned trial court. He further directed to issue notice to the FIA DG informing that the time for his statement to be recorded is fixed for Friday at 10:30am. It is pertinent to mention here that the FIA DG had said while taking to media persons that Javaid Khanani and Munaaf Kalia, the owners of the seized foreign exchange company, were given VIP treatment during their period under detention. He had further alleged that they spent most of their time in hospital and a jail doctor kept Javaid and Munaf under treatment without the recommendation of the medical board. They got their release orders issued by the banking court before completion of the investigation into the money laundering case, the FIA chief had added. asghar azad
