Ranjha says SC should have referred Shah’s case to SHC
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) should have referred the case against the appointment of NAB Chairman, Syed Deedar Hussain Shah, to the Sindh High Court (SHC), said Dr Khalid Ranjha on Thursday.
Talking to Daily Times, Ranjha, who had appeared before the court on behalf of the NAB, said that the SC was requested during the hearing that as petitions of similar nature were pending before the SHC, therefore it should first decide the matter, but the court rejected plea of the NAB chairman.
He said that he could not offer comments on the judgment, as reasons for declaring the appointment illegal were not mentioned in the short order. He stated that confrontation between judiciary and executive could increase due to the judgment.
Ranjha said that the court had no objection to the character of Shah and he was removed on other grounds. People’s Lawyers Forum Supreme Court Bar President, Raja Abdul Rehman, said that the government should file review petition against the court’s judgment. Meanwhile, a high government official has expressed concern over the judgment.
