Pakistanis safe in Tokyo: FO
ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Ministry (FO) is in contact with its embassy in Tokyo, which has confirmed that all of its Pakistani officials are safe, Foreign Ministry (FO) spokesperson Tehmina Janjua said on Friday, adding that reportedly the Pakistani community in the Tokyo area was also safe. The Pakistani embassy is trying to get in touch with Pakistani nationals living closer to the area most affected by the earthquake, and the tsunami in the north-east of Japan. Telephone contacts with the north-east are currently not fully operational, a statement by the FO’s spokesperson stated. President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday expressed his profound sympathies and condolences to all those who had suffered loss of loved ones as a result of the Japan earthquake and tsunami. The government and people of Pakistan stand with Japanese government and its people in total support and solidarity, a letter addressed to the Japan Emperor Akihito by the president read. “Pakistan stands ready to provide any assistance to help our Japanese friends overcome effects of this enormous natural calamity, “ the letter added. Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani also expressed solidarity with the Japanese government and its people. In a message to his Japanese counterpart Naoto Kan, the PM said, “We stand ready to help, in any manner, to alleviate the suffering and assist our Japanese friends to overcome effects of this terrible natural calamity.” staff report/app
