No one will be allowed to violate law: Mirza
* KRC info secretary accuses Peoples Amn Committee of killing innocent people
KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza said on Sunday that whenever the government faced hard time in its tenure, an organised group used to start target killing incidents in Karachi.
Talking to media during a Kachi community protest on Mauripur Road, Mirza informed that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is a national political party, so it would not allow anyone to violate the rule of law.
Condemning the extortions and killing of innocent people, Mirza explained that the current incidents of violence were not target killings, except a few deaths, which appeared to be target killings. He said primarily some extortionist groups were involved in the killing of rival group’s people.
Replying to a question about Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and PPP’s alliance, Mirza said the Allah Almighty would give both parties the ability to take positive steps for the benefit of people in Sindh as well as in Karachi. MQM is a coalition partner of the PPP government, so they need to join hands with it to resolve the issues of Sindh, he said.
He further said the government would protect all people, including Kachis, Balochis, Mianwalis, Punjabis and Urdu speaking, and would arrest the culprits irrespective of criminals’ attempts to hide themselves behind the flag of any political party.
He also announced to form a committee to address the issues of Lyari in which Hussain Haroon would represent the Kachi community. The MNA and the MPA of Lyari would try to resolve the issues at the meeting the date of which is expected to be announced on Monday (today), he said.
Earlier, thousands of people belonging to the Kachi community took to the streets to protest against constant threats, extortions and killings at Lyari and 11 other towns of Karachi. They claimed that under the banner of PPP, Peoples Amn Committee (PAC) was involved in those heinous crimes. The protesters blocked the Maripur Road for several hours. They announced that they would march to Bilawal House as President Asif Ali Zardari was in Karachi in order to present a charter of demand to the president to curb the crime in the city, especially in Lyari Town.
Talking to Daily Times, the information secretary of the Kachi Rabita Committee (KRC), Dawood Kachi, alleged that PAC had been killing innocent people and at least half a million population of the Lyari had become hostage to the gangsters.
He said most of the Kachi community people support the PPP, but he was surprised as to why the provincial government had not taken any step against the gangsters, who according to him were spreading their criminal activities not only in Lyari but also in other parts of the city.
He alleged that the PAC is a stigma on the face of the PPP, however, he said that PAC had not been totally involved in the crimes rather most of the area gangsters involved in the crime had hidden under the banner of the PAC and they had also held local leaders of the PPP hostage. He said the KRC wanted to go to Bilawal House to present a charter of demand, however, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, Rafiq Engineer, MNA Qadir Patel and others had given assurance to curb the crime not only in Lyari but also in other parts of the city, consequently the KRC had postponed the rally.
It is worth mentioning here that following the announcement of rally, law enforcement agencies had totally blocked Moulvi Tamizuddin Khan Road and Mai Kolachi bypass to stop the participants of the rally from approaching Bilawal House. staff report.
