PPP, MQM to continue policy of reconciliation

KARACHI: The ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and its coalition partner, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), have agreed that the process of political reconciliation would continue for political stability, welfare of the people and resolving problems facing the country.
The agreement was reached at a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan at the Bilawal House on Monday evening. Interior Minister Rehman Malik and the president’s spokesperson, Farhatullah Babar, were also present. On the occasion, Malik gave a briefing on his recent meeting with MQM chief, Altaf Hussain, in London.
The meeting agreed that in larger interest of the country and the people, strict action would be taken against criminals of all hue and no criminal would be allowed to seek shelter behind a political facade.
It was also resolved that all issues would be addressed in a spirit of mutual accommodation and in accordance with the mission of the leaders of the two parties.
Briefing journalists, the president’s spokesman said the meeting was held in a very cordial atmosphere.
