Seven killed in Hyderabad Jail clash
HYDERABAD: At least seven prisoners were killed and 30 people including cops, were injured when prisoners of Hyderabad Central Jail fought with jail administration on Tuesday.
As per details, the episode began with protests by the prisoners who climbed the rooftops of their barracks and complained about blockage of water, gas and electricity supply to their barracks.
They protested against insufficient facilities in the jail and fought with the jail administration. Several inmates raised slogans against the jail staff. Heavy contingents of police were summoned, who fired teargas shells on the rioting inmates. Infuriated prisoners pelted police with stones, injuring SHO Market police station, Tariq Khanzada, gunman of TPO Muhammad Ismail and District Police Officer’s gunman, Muhammad Anwer.
More police contingents were called in to control the infuriated prisoners. Police opened fire, killing at least seven prisoners. Jail hospital incharge, Dr Pir Manzoor, said bodies of seven prisoners were brought to the hospital. The deceased included Ghulam Ali Khaskheli, Abdul Hakeem Mallah, Shafiq Malano, Aziz Khoso, Nadir Magsi and others. Prisoners held at least six jail officials hostage. The new Jail Superintendent, Shabir Jan Sarhindi, had taken charge a few days back.
Additional police contingents and ambulances were summoned by the jail administration. Police from four districts, including Mirpurkhas, Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar and Matiari were called in to assist the jail police. The spokesman informed that police had recovered two kalashnikovs, a repeater, a pistol and 600 mobile phones during the action in addition to equipments used for making wine. agencies
