Indian activists hail MQM’s pro-peace policies

KARACHI: A representative delegation of Indian journalists and politicians visited the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) head office at Nine Zero and met Deputy Convener of the MQM’s Coordination Committee, Dr Farooq Sattar, and members, Nasrin Jalil, Kunwar Khalid Younus Wasay Jalil, Raza Haroon and Mustafa Kamal. The delegation was headed by renowned Indian scholar, journalist and columnist Kuldip Nayar. The Indian delegation included ex-member of the Indian Parliament, Muhammad Shahid Siddiqui, social worker Sanjay Nehera, Karamat Ali and MB Kutty from the labour organisation PILER, and human rights co-chairman Iqbal Haider. MNAs Haider Abbas Rizvi, Khushbakh Shujaat and Manohar Lal, MPAs Sardar Ahmed, Faisal Sabzwari and Khawaja Izharul Hassan were also present on the occasion. The meeting continued for over an hour in a pleasant atmosphere. Relations between Pakistan and India, overall political and economic situation and came under discussion in the meeting. Both sides stressed upon the need to increase the efforts to improve the relations between the two countries by bridging the gaps.

Dr Farooq Sattar informed the delegation about the efforts and policies of the MQM for achieving the rights of the poor and middle class people. The Indian delegation appreciated the struggle and policies of the MQM and suggested the establishment of cultural and social relations between the youths and organisations of Karachi and Mumbai on the lines of relations between the Indian Punjab and Pakistani Punjab. They also suggested that the citizens of both the cities should exchange delegations in order to improve relations. They congratulated Altaf Hussain and the leadership of the MQM on the 27th foundation day of the party. Later, Dr Farooq Sattar took the delegation on a visit to different wings of the party at its public secretariat. pr
