Political parties should avoid politics of 90s: Babar
* Law minister asks PML-N, other parties to show patience during president’s address to parliament
Staff Report
LAHORE: Federal Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Babar Awan, said on Sunday that all the political parties in parliament, especially Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), should avoid repeating the politics of the 1990s and show some patience and maturity during the joint session of parliament to which President Asif Ali Zardari is scheduled to address.
Talking to journalists after attending the marriage ceremony of daughter of a Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) worker, Mani Pehalwan, at the Railways Station, Babar Awan said it was for the first time when a democratic government was entering its fourth parliamentary year, because in the past, governments of Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto could not complete even three years of their five-year tenures. “It is a success of the PPP-led government that it is going to complete its five-year parliamentary tenure,” he added.
PPP’s prominent leaders, including the Pakistan People’s Party Secretary General, Jahangir Badar, Punjab Governor, Latif Khosa, Mian Misbahur Rehman, Yasmin Misbahur Rehman, Umar Misbah, Naveed Chaudhry, Samiullah Khan, Usman Malik, Mian Ayyub, Aurangzeb Barki, Chaudhry Manzoor, Munawar Anjum and Zikriya Butt also attended the marriage ceremony.
Babar Awan informed that President Asif Ali Zardari would deliver his fourth address to the joint session of parliament on Tuesday, March 22, at 4pm. He said that all the political parties sitting in parliament, especially the second largest party in the country, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), should play a mature role in the joint session of parliament.
Commenting on the release of the US national, Raymond Davis, the law minister said that the court had given its verdict hence no one could comment on it. Opposing the protest demonstrations over the release of Davis, he said that protest rallies and demonstrations in favour or against the court’s decision should be avoided.
Babar said that political parties should avoid using public departments and institutions for their political ends and they should also avoid using the shelter of some departments to get their political incentives.
Later, Babar visited the shrine of Hazarat Baba Shah Anayat Qadri along with party workers and offered prayers for the salvation of the soul of Benazir Bhutto and for the good health of President Asif Ali Zardari. On the occasion, he said that Sufis played vital role in propagating Islam in the sub-continent and spread the massage of religious harmony and peace, and Pakistan People’s Party was following the footsteps of them.
