Address a sheer disappointment, says PML-N
* Nisar says speech was of a party head rather than head of the state
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan termed President Asif Ali Zardari’s address to the joint sitting of parliament, a “sheer disappointment” and called it a speech of a party head rather than head of the state.
Asif Zardari, though, met the constitutional requirement to address the parliament; it was however not in accordance with the national requirements of the country, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan stated at a press conference on Tuesday.
He severely criticised President Zardari for portraying a “rosy picture” of the country, which he said was far beyond the ground realities. He said “all is well” mantra is not acceptable because precarious conditions in the country negate what has been stated in the speech.
“The way government ruled the country in the last three years is the clear manifestation of its failure to address the grave problems confronting the nation,” he pointed out. Whatever President Zardari stated in his address was not the story of Pakistan, he said, “Because today country is passing through a critical stage due to grave problems of poverty, unemployment, confrontation with judiciary, target killings etc.”
