PM calls on Uzbek President


TASHKENT: Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani Thursday called on Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov and discussed regional scenario particularly in backdrop of gradual withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan.

The two leaders stressed need for active interaction for peaceful transition in Afghanistan as both countries have direct interest in that war ravaged country. They also reviewed bilateral ties, officials said.

President Karimov and Premier Gilani noted Tashkent and Islamabad have similarity of views on important international and regional issues.

They said connectivity between two countries, through Afghanistan will increase trade and people to people contacts. Uzbekistan could benefit from Pakistan's at Gwadar & Karachi seaports and find new markets in Middle East & Europe.
