No progress in talks with angry Baloch, says Magsi
* Balochistan governor says they should wait for next general elections so that new leadership emerges and makes efforts to normalise situation in province
Staff Report
QUETTA: Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi said on Wednesday that he does not see any progress on talks with angry Baloch people, who are engaged in a struggle for their rights. He said if any progress was made, the situation of the province would have seen positive changes.
He said this while talking to media at the Governor’s House during an award distribution ceremony in connection with the Pakistan Day.
Magsi expressed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Balochistan and said there had been an alarming increase in kidnapping for ransom and even judges, lawyers and women are not being spared by criminals.
“Law and order is a provincial subject and the Balochistan government can explain the situation in a better way,” he said. The governor said that had any action been taken for the fulfilment of the demands of the Balochs earlier, the situation of the province would have been much better. “We should wait for the next general elections so that a new leadership comes and makes efforts to normalise the situation,” he added.
Responding to a question on whether he would contest the next elections, Magsi said, “I am 60-year-old now and about to retire from politics, therefore, I have nothing to do with elections.” Provincial Ministers Zamruk Khan Achakzai, Mir Asim Kurd Gilu, Parveen Magsi, Tariq Magsi, Mir Shahnwaz Marri, Mir Ismail Gujjar, Balochistan Chief Secretary Ahmed Bakhsh Lehri and others were present on the occasion.
