Sports to be used for spreading peace: Iftikhar


PESHAWAR: Provincial Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said that Pakistan cannot afford to lose the war against terrorism and that sports will be used for spreading the message of peace across the world, Geo News reported Sunday.

Talking to reporters here at Qayyum Stadium, the Information Minister said sports can play a vital role for discouraging the menace of militancy and terrorism, adding the government is utilizing all available resources for promotion of sports so that youth could not go in wrong hands.

Iftikhar Hussain said the government will provide cordial atmosphere to girls and women to encourage them to participate in sports events.

The women of Khyber Pakthunkhwa had showed great success in past in sports events. Today's importance of sports could not be ignored as it creates tolerance in society and bringing people closer. The cricket World Cup semi final match between Pakistan and Indian cricket teams would be highly interested, he remarked.

The visit of Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani to watch the cricket match at Mohali on invitation of Indian PM Dr Singh is a positive development, he remarked.

The Khyber Pakthunkhwa government spokesman said war against terror would be won at all cost and defeat is not acceptable. The government's timely decisions have defeated militants in Swat and writ of government was restored.

He paid rich tributes to sacrifices of security forces, peace and ANP workers in war against terror and held it high esteem.
