Moonis remand extended for four days
LAHORE: A judicial magistrate on Monday extended the physical remand of PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi for another four days in the National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) scam.
On Monday, Moonis was presented before the court amid strict security.
During the hearing, Deputy Director Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Javaid Hussain pleaded the court to extend the physical remand as the accused was very much involved in the case and a huge amount was to be recovered from him.
However, Moonis's counsel opposed the request contending that despite ten days physical remand the FIA failed to present evidence or recover anything.
After hearing the arguments, Judicial Magistrate Irfan Basra extended the physical remand for another four days.
A large number of PML-Q workers were present on the occasion.
Moonis Elahi surrendered to FIA officials after a division bench of the Lahore High court rejected his bail petition against the impugned orders of a judge of Special Court Banking for his arrest in the NICL scam.
Additional Director General FIA Zafar Quershi told the LHC that FIA had evidence and witnesses against Moonis Elahi.
He said that Rs 320 million were transferred from NICL to bogus accounts and during investigation it was discovered that the amount was later transferred to Moonis' account.
