‘Earth Hour to mitigate climate change effects’

ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) joined hands with the global community to observe Earth Hour-2011, for promotion of sustainable environment, conservation of energy and to mitigate the effects of climate change.

In this regard a ceremony was held at CDA headquarters. CDA Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi and other officials of the civic authority participated. All the lights were switched off of CDA building as a symbolic act for observing the Earth Hour. Addressing on the occasion, CDA chairman said the civic body had been endeavoring to create a safe living environment in Islamabad and is adopting the principle of sustainable urban development, conservation of natural resources and restoration of natural ecosystem.

Efforts are also being made to adopt the best practices for reducing consumption of energy and carbon emission, Elahi said. He said to actively participate in the Earth Hour, CDA has extended full cooperation for organizing a mega event in front of Parliament House arranged by the Ministry of Environment. staff report
