KARACHI: Karachiites consumed 50 to 55 Mega Watt less electricity because of Earth Hour observance in Pakistan on Saturday to show solidarity with global fraternity for tackling the challenge of global warming and climate change. This was informed by Sindh Minister for Environment and Alternative Energy Sheikh Muhammad Afzal while addressing the members of Earth Hour Organising Committee of Environment and Alternative Energy Department, Government of Sindh, here on Sunday. Congratulating Karachiites on the successful observance of Earth Hour and saluting their spirit to save such a huge amount of electricity during one hour, he said that residents of Karachi had proven that Pakistani nation was not lagging behind in global efforts for energy conservation. “Pakistani nation has once again demonstrated that it can give any kind of sacrifice for the betterment of the country”, he asserted. Sheikh Afzal said that during the short period of one hour, voluntary saving of 50-55 MW energy was itself a record while declaration of Sindh as Earth Hour Province by the Sindh government and declaration of Karachi as Earth Hour City by the Karachi City District Government was also a unique example for other countries. haris hanif
