Senate adopts resolution against desecration of holy Quran
ISLAMABAD: Members of Senate on Monday were unanimous in condemning the desecration of holy Quran in Florida, USA by Pastor Terry Jones. The 69th session of Senate put aside the regular business on the agenda to discuss the heinous incident and passed a unanimous resolution to condemn it.
The resolution demanded the government to take the lead by mobilising all resources and forums to move UN and OIC on the issue. Taking part in the debate on the issue, some senators said that Jones’ action should not taken in isolation as it was part of a ‘calculated effort’ to carryout blasphemous acts to injure the sentiments of the Muslims.
Some senators lashed out at the US government for remaining silent on this tragic incident and urged the government to summon the US ambassador in Foreign Office to convey the grievances of Pakistan. ”If corrective measures are not taken by the US government, meeting with USA officials and buying of its products should be stopped,” they stressed. Interior Minister Rehman Malik told the House that government was sensitised about the issue and has been taking up this issue with the international bodies. “A letter will also be forwarded to the US government to take stringent action against the pastor,” he told the House. tanveer ahmed
