PML-N gives PPP a blow in Balochistan* PPP former provincial president Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani, 22 other leaders join PML-N
* Nawaz says PPP’s 5-year rule has pushed the country 50 years back
LAHORE: Chief of his own faction of the Pakistan Muslim League, Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday hit hard at the Pakistan People’s Party, saying that the ruling party has completed five years in power but pushed the country fifty years back.
Speaking alongside Lashkari Raisani and other Baloch leaders who joined his party, the former prime minister said that with a “pathetic alliance”, PPP is finally going to complete its tenure, but this regime has been the worst for the country. Nawaz lashed out at government for the recent wave of terrorism in the country and termed it a failure of the rulers.
“People have been dieing in Balochistan and Karachi every day, but the government never bothers to take steps for protection of innocent people,” the PML-N president said, adding that “terrorism has been extended from Khyber to Karachi and Quetta, but the allied government does not value human life, and it is just celebrating its rule of five years”. He said the federal interior minister was just predicting terrorism activities, but doing nothing to prevent them.
Nawaz said that the parties in the ruling alliance have armed wings in Karachi and some of their members are involved in murder cases. He said the government has failed to provide security to its citizens. He stressed that political will and a vibrant leadership was needed to restore peace in the country. To a query about the caretaker setup, Nawaz said that the opposition leader in the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, had consulted political parties including those who were not part of parliament to reac consensus on the caretaker government. He announced that if the government makes a better nomination his party would accept it.
To a query on Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s allegations, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif asserted that it was the federal and Sindh governments that have issued arms licences to banned outfits. The chief minister said the Supreme Court has declared Rehman Malik a liar. Speaking on the occasion, former PPP member from Balochistan Lashkari Raisani who quit PPP to join the PML-N said that the PPP has abandoned the vision and commitment of Benazir Bhutto which is why he left the party.
He said Balochistan was witnessing the worst situation in the history of the country, but the current government has done nothing there but to preserve its rule. Raisani said democracy was the best solution to Balochistan problems. He announced that under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif they would drag the country out of crises it is in. Earlier, Lashkari Raisani met the PML-N leadership in Raiwind and announced to join hands with Nawaz Sharif. Raisani joined the PML-N along with 22 of his associates. Raisani, younger brother of Brahvi tribal chief, has served in the past as a member of the Balochistan Assembly for the PPP.
The formal decision of changing party was taken during a meeting with PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif at Raiwind. The newcomers expressed their full confidence in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif. Raisani had resigned from PPP in 2012 after he developed differences with the party. The former president of the PPP in Balochistan developed considerable clout in the province as the brother of the former chief minister, Nawab Aslam Raisani, and in his own right as a PPP leader there.
Nawaz stated that he was more concerned about the future of the country rather than his politics. The PML-N president reiterated that elections would take place and Pakistan would see brighter days. He said that if the government nominee for the caretaker prime minister was more suitable and had good reputation, his party would accept the decision. He strongly condemned the Abbas Town incident, but regretted that the rulers were least concerned about the loss of innocent lives. He said the people had given mandate to the rulers for their security and well-being, but the government has shown complete inefficiency and was instead leveling allegations against others.
The PML-N chief asked Interior Minister Rehman Malik what steps were taken to provide security to the people despite having information about terrorism activities in Quetta and Karachi. He said terrorism in Pakistan was the result of wrong policies of military dictators and unconstitutional governments. agencies.
