$3.179bn received from US under KLB programme, NA told
* Disbursement included $2.1 billion in bilateral civilian assistance

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has received $3.179 billion from the US under the Kerry Lugar Berman Assistance from September 1, 2009, to September 30, 2012, the National Assembly was told on Wednesday.
This was stated in a written reply to the House by Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar. The total disbursement included $2.1 billion in bilateral civilian assistance and $1.06 billion in emergency flood response. The year-wise break up of US assistance to the country under the KLB shows that in fiscal year 2010, the US committed $1.513 billion and obligated by providing $1.039 billion. During FY 2011, US doled out $929.24 million, whereas in FY 2012, total disbursement came to $950 million, including $670 million disbursed till June 30, 2012, and then again Washington released additional $280 million on August 3, 2012, to support energy sector.
The area-wise detail of this disbursement indicated that the funding to the energy sector made 4.81 percent of total assistance by coming to $ 143.8 million. The economic growth, including the agriculture sector, received $126.6 million, coming out to 4.23 percent. The stabilisation (USAID) head received $621.9 million or 20.7 percent of assistance.
The stabilisation (civilian law, enforcement, rule of law and counter narcotics) side received $143.8 million. The education sector received $330.8 million. The disbursement to health was $186 million, social and humanitarian assistance got $313.1 million during the period under review. The assistance related to cross-cutting-democracy and governance received $86.9 million and emergency flood response fetched $1.034 billion in the said period.
