Government submits objections over changes in nomination forms to ECP
ISLAMABAD: The Law Ministry has submitted its objections over proposed changes in nomination papers to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Geo News reported.
According to the details, objecting over a box about the academic qualification of the candidate, the law ministry said that it should only be made mandatory for the technocrats in the Senate.
The ministry also raised objections over the provisions seeking details of candidates, their family's wealth, tax record and three-year record of their foreign visits.
It said that the tax returns record of the last three years should not be sought from the candidates but from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Over dual nationality, the ministry said that after submission of the affidavit, there is no need to seek details of foreign passport.
The Law Ministry further added that if a criminal case against any candidate is pending then he couldn't be declared ineligible for contesting elections.
Meanwhile, the ECP is of the view that whatever changes need to be made must be finalized by March 11. If the proposed amendments were not approved by 11th of the current month then the Commission would send the unchanged version of the nomination papers for printing, ECP said.
On the other hand, the Law Minister Farook H Naek has taken the Prime Minister into confidence over reservations on the proposed amendments.
