Shahbaz announces all-out help for Joseph Colony affectees
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab, Sahbaz Sharif Saturday issued orders for the immediate arrest the Joesph Colony arsonists/plunderers who ran riot in the Christian neighborhood after alleged blasphemy reports, Geo News reported,
“No one, who even has a slightest hand in the rampage that left hundreds of Christian homes inhabitable and valuables worth millions of rupees burnt beyond recognition, will be spared”, said a grave looking Shahbaz Sharif addressing media here.
He said Punjab law minister, Rana Sanaullah, would lead a committee constituted to look into the matter, adding, however a judicial inquiry had also been planned.
“We will delve deep to get to the bottom of this heinous hate-crime. Those who incited people into perpetrating this rampage will be brought to the dock”, said he.
On top of announcing Rs200,000 each for those whose homes were torched, he also pledged to rebuild the damaged buildings.
“A relief camp will be set up in the affected area to provide utmost assistance to the affectees”, he added.
It is pertinent to mention that the DSP and SHO of the stationhouse of the area have been suspended.
Earlier, a hopping-mad mob set dozens of Christian homes on fire after an alleged incident of blasphemy in Joseph Colony, Badami Bagh.
According to police, dozens of enraged people surrounded the Christian locality and set many homes affire.
Meanwhile, police was deployed in the troubled area to control the situation where some people including policemen were also injured.
The injured were rushed to the Mayo Hospital for treatment.
Violence broke out after a local Christian was accused of using blasphemous remarks against the Holy Prophet (PUBH).
The police arrested the accused and registered a case against him.
The Badshahi Mosque Khateeb and other Ulema reached the spot to calm down the situation. They said such an incident should not happen as Islam does not allow to burn houses or kill any innocent person.
