Benazir Housing Scheme : Zardari distributes ownership papers

HYDERABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday said alleviation of poverty and emancipation of the poor remained guiding principles of the present democratic government.

Addressing a function here at Hyderabad Press Club to hand over ownership certificates and keys of the newly constructed houses under Behan Benazir Basti (Benazir Housing Programme) the president said provision of houses to the destitute families of Sindh is the fulfilment of yet another promise.

He said it is a great pleasure for him to distribute the ownership certificates of low cost houses to the poorest of the poor families under Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Housing Programme.

Referring to the vision of visionary leaders Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the president said the democratic government remained committed to provide ‘Roti, Kapra and Makan’ to the people.

He said the completion and distribution of these housing units is a landmark achievement of the government of Sindh.

The president said it is a giant step towards fulfilling the pledges made by the leaders Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.

He said shelter is a basic human requirement needed for security and comfort and with the distribution of the keys today, the government has fulfilled its another promise.

He said Benazir Bhutto Housing Cell was established in Sindh to build 6,500 low cost houses in 23 districts.

These houses, he said, will be distributed free of cost among the needy people.

The president said many more such housing schemes need to be launched to meet the housing needs of the poor people who cannot afford to build their own houses.

He congratulated the beneficiaries of the newly built houses on becoming proud owners of their own houses.

The president appreciated the efforts of Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Minister for Housing Ayaz Soomro, the entire team of the Benazir Housing Cell and the civil society organisations.

The ceremony was also attended by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, Sindh chief minister, federal and provincial ministers, and members of the national and provincial assemblies. app
