Surge in pollen count recorded in Islamabad


ISLAMABAD: As the spring season sets in, surge has been recorded in pollen count in various sectors of the federal capital. The number of patients with pollen allergy has also increased at city hospitals and clinics. According to a Meteorological Department official, pollen count was recorded at 217 grains/cubic metre in Sector E8, 135 grains/cubic metre in Sector F8, 589 grains/cubic metre in Sector I10 and 249 grains/cubic metre in Sector G7, while the highest pollen count of 589 grains/cubic metre was recorded in Sector H8 of the capital city. Officials said that pollen count was likely to go up in the next two to three weeks. Hospital sources said that a number of patients suffering from pollen allergy had been visiting the hospitals on a daily basis. In the coming days, the pollen count is expected to rise in the middle of March, as has been witnessed during the last 20 years in the federal capital. Pollen allergy symptoms include sneezing, itching, watery eyes, coughing, difficulty in breathing, wheezing and eventually asthma attack. inp
