NA approves bill prohibiting corporal punishment of children



ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly of Pakistan has approved a bill prohibiting corporal punishment of children in educational institutions.

The bill was tabled by Dr Atia Inayatullah which was approved with consensus in the National Assembly.

The bill has declared any form of corporal punishment of children in academic institutions illegal. The individuals found to be involved in the acts would be sentenced to one year in prison, Rs 50,000 fine or both.

Speaking to Geo News, the host of ‘Chal Parha’ Shehzad Roy welcomed the passage of the bill and said it’s implementation had to ensured.

The issue of corporal punishment was highlighted on Geo News program ‘Chal Parha’ which prompted action from the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. A resolution was also approved by the Sindh Assembly.
