SC disqualifies another PPP MNA over dual nationality
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday disqualified PPP MNA Rai Mujtaba for holding dual nationality. Disqualifying the MNA on the last day of the incumbent parliament, the Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) secretary to furnish the list of those parliamentarians who have been disqualified for holding dual nationalities. Hearing the suo motu case against legislators holding dual nationalities, a three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Friday declared that despite been given several months’ time, PPP MNA Rai Mujtaba Kharal has failed to produce the certificate proving renouncement of his Canadian nationality. In view of its September 20 judgement, the bench also directed the ECP to denotify and initiate criminal proceeding against him. The PPP MNA has also been directed to deposit all the salaries he drew along with perks and privileges which he had obtained as MNA within two weeks. hasnaat malik
