Caretaker PM: Oppostion proposes four names for parliamentary committee
LAHORE: The opposition on Tuesday recommended four names for the parliamentary committee tasked to nominate the caretaker prime minister, hours before the expiry of deadline for opposition and government to reach a consensus over the issue.
After the expiration of the deadline at midnight, the matter of the appointment of the caretaker prime minister will be referred to an eight-member bipartisan parliamentary committee, which would decide within three days as to who will be the interim prime minister.
The opposition has put forward the names of Senator Parvez Rasheed, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Mehtab Abbasi and Yaqoob Nasir for the parliamentary committee all of whom are members of the PML-N. According to Chaudhry Nisar all opposition parties were consulted.
The government has already finalized four names of its side to represent in the committee to be formed by the speaker of the recently dissolved National Assembly.
Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Farooq H. Naek, Khurshid Shah and Ghulam Ahmed Bilour will represent the government in the committee.
In case, the parliamentary committee also fails to decide the name of caretaker prime minister, the matter would then be referred to the Election Commission of Pakistan to finalize the name within two days.
