OGDCL MD apologises to Senate committee

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: The Standing Committee of Senate on Rules of Procedures and Privileges on Tuesday expressed concern over what it termed irresponsible and non-cooperative behaviour of managing directors of OGDCL and Security Papers.

The committee, which met under the chairmanship of Senator Col (r) Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, considered the privilege motions moved by Senator Saeed Ghani against the OGDCL managing director due to his “non-cooperative behaviour” in certain matters of public importance and against the Security Papers managing director due to “non-cooperative” attitude.

Senator Mashhadi and other members expressed their concern over what they saw as irresponsible and non-cooperative behaviour of both the OGDCL MD and Security Papers MD.

The members observed that parliament is supreme and the government officials must show respect to it and its representatives. During the meeting, OGDCL MD extended un-conditional apology and assured to be careful in future.

The committee accepted his unconditional apology and disposed of the matter.

However, Security Papers MD failed to appear before the committee, which directed the authorities concerned to take appropriate action in this regard. The committee sought a detailed report from the concerned quarters.

The meeting was attended by senators Haji Muhammad Adeel, Mushahid Hussain Sayed and Saeed Ghani besides senior officials of the relevant ministries, divisions and departments.
