PML-N to move court against ‘bargaining’ on caretaker CMs* Nawaz says selection of caretaker CMs in Sindh, Balochistan not transparent; ECP, SC should take notice
LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has said it will move the court against “shady deal” on caretaker chief ministers in Sindh and Balochistan.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, flanked by top party leadership, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif said the selection of caretaker chief ministers in Sindh and Balochistan was not transparent and the election commission and Supreme Court should take notice of the “anomaly”. He alleged that “bargaining was done for dissolution of Sindh and Balochistan assemblies” which, he added, was against the 20th Constitutional Amendment. “No one will be allowed to detract the forthcoming polls,” Nawaz declared.
He said the PML-N would not allow anyone to make the elections disputed or rig the polls. Regarding the caretaker prime minister, Nawaz said process of selection would be completed as per the constitution. He said parliament had completed its constitutional five-year term without the umbrella of military, which was a big development for the country and an honour as well.
Nawaz said the PML-N had showed great patience during the last five years for the continuation of the democratic process and to strengthen democracy. He said his party had rendered many sacrifices for this objective. The PML-N president lashed out at former president General Pervez Musharraf and said that in his era tickets were distributed from the Governor’s House. He said that dictatorship and martial law were not solutions to any problem, but it was also not necessary that all decisions in a democracy be taken with consensus.
Nawaz recalled that democratic governments had been toppled by dictators before the completion of their terms and added that the challenges being faced by Pakistan now are the result of dictatorial rules. Replying a question, he said that JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was more angry with Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan than the PML-N. He said that he would personally contact Rehman. To another question, Nawaz said the MQM parted ways with the government only a few days before the end of government’s terms.
He said the PML-N had received thousands of applications for award of tickets for the next general elections. He announced a convention will be held at Model Town in Lahore on Friday (tomorrow) for the aspirants of party tickets. The PML-N chief stressed that the country cannot afford rigging in the election. The former two-time premier also welcomed Raheela Magsi into his party. inp
