Balochistan nominates Nawab Barozai as CM

QUETTA/KARACHI: In a major breakthrough, Nawab Ghous Bakhsh Barozai has been nominated as the caretaker chief minister of Balochistan.

In a press conference on Thursday, Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani flanked by leader of the opposition Nawabzada Tariq Magsi, Maulana Abdul Wasay of JUI, Zamrak Achakzai of ANP, Syed Ehsan Shah and Asad Baloch of BNP-A, Ali Madad Jatak, Sardar Sanaullah Zehri and others announced the name of the caretaker chief minister and said that the constitutional process in Balochistan was set off through a democratic way.

Raisani claimed that his government had done record-breaking development work and therefore calls upon the “accusers to acknowledge the reality of their achievements rather than accusing their government and calling it as a corrupt setup”. Raisani said Reko Diq and Gwadar port belong to the people of Balochistan and should be handed over to the provincial government. He added that the NFC award and victory in the case of Reko Diq projects in the Supreme Court and in International Court is a huge success of his government.

Speaking on the occasion, Nawabzada Tariq Magsi said that Ghous Baksh Barozai has been unanimously nominated as the caretaker chief minister after negotiations with all the members. He thanked Nawab Raisani for his support. In a separate development, Justice (r) Zahid Kurban Alavi took oath as caretaker chief minister of Sindh on Thursday. Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan administered the oath at a ceremony at the Governor’s House.

Former Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and leaders of the Pakistan People’s Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement were also present on the occasion. Referring to criticism on his appointment by the opposition parties, Alavi said that his appointment has been made according to the constitution. He added that anybody could challenge his appointment in the court.
