Parliamentary Committee will deliberate on caretaker CM till midnight: Shahbaz

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said Tuesday that the provincial parliamentary committee would deliberate on the appointment of a caretaker CM till midnight.

Sharif stated that the decision to send the matter to the Election Commission of Pakistan had not yet been made.

Earlier on Tuesday, members of the committee had announced that they had failed to reach a consensus on the appointment and the matter would be sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Shortly after the announcement PML-N parliamentary committee member Rana Sanaullah telephoned opposition members Chaudhry Zaheer and Shaukat Basra.

The parliamentary committee is comprised of six members, three each from the government and opposition. The PML-N is represented by Rana Sanaullah, Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman and Iqbal Chunnar, while the opposition PPP and PML-Q was represented by Shaukat Basra, Zulfiqar Gondal and Chaudhry Zaheer.

Nominees for the caretaker CM Punjab post include Justice (retd) Amir Raza Khan and former bureaucrat Khwaja Zaheer proposed by the PML-N, while the opposition suggested names of senior journalist Najam Sethi and Justice (retd) Zahid Hussain.
