Musharraf files nomination papers in Chitral
PESHAWAR: Former military ruler Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf has filed his nomination papers for NA-32 seat in the remote Chitral district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday.
All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Chitral President Shahzada Khalid Pervez filed the nomination papers of Musharraf with the returning officer in Chitral city, the party said in a press statement. “The APML has decided to field former president from this mountainous constituency where the APML has a strong vote bank,” Khalid Pervez said. He was optimistic that the APML chief would “easily sail through” in the May 11 general elections. Musharraf had “won the hearts of people of Chitral by fulfilling their long-lasting demand of constructing Lowari Tunnel to establish easy link between Chitral and rest of the country,” the APML Chitral chapter president added. Due to its remoteness and being away from media focus, the former dictator chose Chitral in the past also to contest elections. Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor the late Lt Gen (r) had contested polls from Chitral for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. Khalid Pervez said that Musharraf had chosen this constituency because the people of Chitral “wanted to pay (him) glowing tribute for inaugurating construction work on Lowari Tunnel Project in 2006”. staff report
